Government Internship Opportunity: Environmental Management and Planning

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is offering a valuable internship opportunity for graduates interested in environmental management and local government planning. Minimum Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

– Hold a National Diploma or relevant qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related field
– Have a solid understanding of environmental legislation, particularly in the context of local government
– Be familiar with the roles and relationships between local, provincial, and national government
– Demonstrate strong skills in communication (verbal and written), coordination, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and planning
– Possess computer literacy and a valid driver’s license

Key Responsibilities

Interns will be actively involved in:

– Supporting environmental planning and management functions within municipalities
– Providing technical advice on environmental legislation and its implementation at the local level
– Assisting in environmental capacity-building initiatives for municipal officials
– Monitoring and assessing municipal environmental performance
– Participating in strategic municipal processes such as Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and the District Development Model (DDM)
– Helping integrate environmental priorities into municipal planning
– Supporting departmental sector programmes through project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation
– Promoting environmental education and awareness in local communities
