What is an Old Mutual Bursary?
At Old Mutual we offer funding to study further for students who are passionate about becoming Accountants or Actuaries. The bursary is offered to students that have done exceptionally well at school. Every year, Old Mutual bursary gives an opportunity to bright minds to study at a prestigious university in South Africa. The bursary is set to cover most of the costs.
The Imfundo Trust, a scholarship initiative by Old Mutual Investment Group, invites eligible students to apply for funding for the 2026 academic year. This programme is dedicated to empowering Black South African students, especially women, who aspire to build careers in investment, commerce, data science, and engineering.
What the Scholarship Covers:
The Imfundo Trust Scholarship provides full-time funding for undergraduate and select postgraduate studies at selected South African universities.
Fields of Study Funded:
- Business, Commerce, Finance, and Management Sciences
- Computer Science and related fields (e.g. Computational Thinking)
- Data Science
- Engineering
- Climate Studies (Postgraduate only)
Minimum Requirements:
- South African citizens only
- For Grade 12 learners (entering 1st year in 2026):
- Minimum 70% average in June/Term 2 exams
- Minimum 70% in Mathematics
- Minimum 70% in English FAL or 60% in English HL
- For current 1st-year students (in 2025):
- Minimum 65% average in latest mid-year results
- Scholarships are available for first and second-year students in 2026 (except for postgraduate Climate Studies)
- Preference is given to applicants from rural or township schools
Selection Process:
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews
- The Board of Trustees will consider academic results, background, and any additional financial aid received when awarding the scholarship
- The Trust may adjust or withdraw scholarship awards if overlapping financial support is discovered
