SA Army Military Skills Development System (MSDS) 2027 Intake

The MSDS is a two-year voluntary service system with the aim of functional training and preparing young South Africans for the workforce or a career in the SANDF.

📅 Key Dates

• Applications Open: 16 February 2026
• Closing Date: 27 March 2026
• Outcome Notification: If you are not contacted by 31 December 2027, consider your application unsuccessful.

✅ General Requirements

To qualify for the 2027 intake, you must meet the following criteria:

• Citizenship: South African Citizen (No dual citizenship).
• Age: – 18–22 years (Grade 12 applicants).
  • 18–26 years (Applicants with a 3-year Tertiary Qualification or N6).
• Education: Successfully completed Grade 12 with an Admission Point Score (APS) of 18 and above (excluding Life Orientation).
• Criminal Record: Must have no criminal record or pending cases.
• Fitness: Must be medically fit and meet the height/weight requirements.
  • Females: Min height 148cm, Min weight 48kg.
  • Males: Min height 155cm, Min weight 52kg.
• Aesthetics: No visible tattoos (neck, face, lower arms, or legs).

🛠 Required Documents (Certified)

You must attach the following to your application:

1. Comprehensive CV.
2. Certified copy of ID.
3. Certified copy of Matric Certificate (Statement of results only accepted for 2025 matriculants).
4. Certified copies of Tertiary Qualifications (if applicable).
5. Proof of Residence (or letter from a Village Chief).

🎖 Career Streams in the SA Army

Depending on your matric subjects (Mathematics and Physical Science are often required for technical roles), you can be placed in:

• Infantry, Armour, Artillery, or Air Defence Artillery.
• Intelligence or Signalers.
• Engineering or Technical Services.
• Military Police or Ammunition.
• Human Resources, Logistics, or Hospitality.
• Fire & Rescue or Music.
