Jumpstart Mr Price

The Jumpstart retail programme is one of the work readiness programmes run by the Mr Price Foundation to help young people make a success of their careers when they are able to find a job. They are not a recruitment company and a job is not guaranteed.

This is different to the organisation called Jumpstart Foundation Trust which runs programmes for schools and young people. Find more details about them at the end of this article.

Jumpstart Careers with Mr Price

The Jumpstart programme, established in collaboration with the Mr. Price Foundation, is meant to prepare youth for entry-level jobs in retail stores, although they maintain that a job is not guaranteed through this programme.

Jumpstart Careers with Spar

Although the Jumpstart programme is run by the Mr Price Foundation they do also train staff who can go on and work for stores in the Spar group. So if you would like to work at a Spar store, or a Spar distribution Centre, one of the Jumpstart programmes can help you get a job there.

These are the different work readiness programmes offered by Jumpstart. They do not guarantee that you will get a job, but if you work hard in the programme it will certainly help your chances.

Jump Start Login

The first step is to go to the Jumpstart website and create an account. Then you can login to find the latest Jumpstart programmes that are available.  Mr Price has always been very closely linked with the Jumpstart programme but a number of other companies also use Jumpstart trainees. Doing the course really can jump start your career! (Sorry about the pun!)

Apart from their youth employment efforts, the JumpStart group aims to make a considerable difference in South African schooling institutions through transforming “underperforming classrooms into centres of maths and science excellence” as well as providing meaningful work experience, on topics such as store management, for South African youth who are unemployed.

Jumpstart Application

Although the JumpStart programme itself only offers training and development for students, the JumpStart initiative has paired up with a few retail companies to launch the JumpStart Retail Frontline Programme. Who knows, you might even become part of store management one day.

JumpStart also offers the following:

  • Primary school maths tutor training
  • Coding and robotics programmes
  • Data and data assessment technologies to monitor learner progress, improve programme performance, support decision making and engage and provide transparency to stakeholders
  • Software labs to address the gap between the computational logic of school leavers and competencies required by industry. The software engineer programme has been moved to a separate legal entity for governance purposes but remains an important part of the JumpStart vision
  • Life skills training to pave the way into entering junior positions and having good work ethic
