Gold Fields’ South Deep Gold Mine is now accepting applications for its Electrical Engineering Learnership Programme, aimed at empowering individuals from surrounding host communities with hands-on training and a pathway into a skilled artisan career.

This opportunity forms part of South Deep’s ongoing commitment to developing local talent and building sustainable communities. Successful applicants will undergo structured technical and workplace-based training, enabling them to qualify as electricians at the end of the programme.

Who Should or Can Apply?

This programme is open to applicants residing in South Deep’s host communities, which include: Bekkersdal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, and Jachtfontein.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science
• Full N3 qualification with four trade-specific subjects: Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Electrical Trade Theory, and Industrial Electronics
• Must be declared medically fit through a risk-based assessment at Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre
• Must pass a Heat Tolerance Screening and any additional suitability assessments

Key Responsibilities:

• Attend all required theoretical and practical training sessions
• Demonstrate consistent performance and initiative
• Participate in feedback and developmental discussions
• Adhere to company policies, safety regulations, and code of conduct
• Work effectively in teams and maintain a positive work ethic
• Always wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
